Self-Manifested Pilgrimage: Biltura (West-Bengal)

Biltura, a small village in West Bengal is a host to several thousand pilgrims who come here every year seeking spiritual enlightenment. The village is known for the Shivaling that self-manifested under a banyan tree next to a very old Kali Temple. Few years back a temple was built to protect the self-manifest Shiva. It was inaugurated on 22nd and 23rd of November 2002 by Shri Shri Sadhu Baba from Khadagpur, who had assumed his initial stages of salvation in this Kali Temple.

Every year as a celebration of the inaugural festival of this Shiva Shrine, a grand festival is organized in this village of Biltura, located in Purulia District which is easy to reach through Adra railway station. Every year, thousands of pilgrims take this opportunity to seek their spiritual selves.

The function starts by Bhagwat Katha orated by Shri Sadhu Baba himself. The Bhagwat Katha is attended by a huge gathering on both these days. This is also telecast live on Sanskar Channel. Another highlight of this festival is the "Chho Naach". This is a tribal dance of Purulia, which is famous across the globe. This is performed in the evening and goes on until late night.

The visitors are provided free accommodation and food in village homes and schools. This is made possible by very hospitable villagers and the key organizer of this festival- Ram Naam Sangh who also provide free railway return tickets from any part of India if the interested visitors make an advance request with the address details. The festival is a wonderful space to share the joy of spiritual journey with others. During this period the village has an amazingly divine ambiance that remains as a very special experience with one and marks the soulful journey ahead.
